Pepin, Miranda Collaborate on New Cigar

Posted: Friday, February 12, 2010

By Gregory Mottola

If you've ever asked yourself why you haven't seen a cigar made by Pepin Garcia with Dominican wrapper, the answer is easy: there aren't any. Dominican tobacco was never his medium of choice—until now.

In collaboration with Nestor Miranda, president of Miami Cigar & Co., and Guillermo León of La Aurora S.A., Garcia has made the Nestor Miranda Collection Dominicano, a Nicaraguan cigar with a Dominican cover leaf culled from the same farm that produced the stellar Aurora 100 Años wrapper.

Although the wrapper on the Nestor Miranda Collection Dominicano will be Dominican, the binder and filler tobacco is Nicaraguan. The cigar is being made at Garcia's My Father Cigars factory in Nicaragua.

It's slated for four sizes: Coffee Break, 4 1/2 inches by 50 ring gauge; Lancero, 7 1/2 by 40; Robusto Grande, 5 1/2 by 54; and Piramides, 6 1/8 by 52. The cigars will retail for $6.00 to $8.00 and come packaged in boxes of 20, except for the Lancero, which will come in boxes of 25.
